According to Khabarkhodro,
A new generation of the iconic Renault 5 might hit the production line in the nearby future, but rather than introducing a new sub-brand similar to Citroen’s DS, rumors saying that the Alpine sub-brand might be reborn too suddenly start making sense. Even if there’s no official word yet on a possible Renault 5 Alpine in a new generation, this is probably why you are sitting there now and reading this article. We definitely want a new Renault 5 Alpine just as we want a new Renault 12 Alpine and more Alpine models wearing the Renault logo on them.
“We’re seriously thinking about bringing back the Renault 5 to underpin the clio. For it to be a credible car it would have to offer more than a Twingo. That would mean it wouldn’t have to just be good dynamically, but would have to introduce a notion of the revolution that the 5 brought to the market in 1972, both in terms of technology and positioning”, as Steve Norman said, according to autocar.co.uk.
Sadly we don’t have more details on a possible Renault 5 revival and the new generation might not even hit the market, but as a reminder, the R5 was the first modern supermini which came in a three-door hatchback layout. The model was a best-seller for most 1970s and it lived until 1985, when it was replaced by the visually similar “Supercinq”.
